The bill establishes a taskforce in South Dakota to study the impact of artificial intelligence systems on the state. The taskforce will consist of various members, including two legislators from the House and Senate, representatives from multiple industries such as health care, banking, retail, manufacturing, and technology, as well as educators, county auditors, municipal officials, and law enforcement representatives. Additionally, members will be appointed by the Governor, the chief justice of the Supreme Court, and the Board of Regents. The taskforce will be chaired by a legislator appointed by the executive board, with administrative support provided by the Legislative Research Council.
The taskforce is required to report its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the executive board by December 1, 2028, at which point it will be dissolved. The bill also specifies that any vacancies on the taskforce must be filled in the same manner as the original appointments. Furthermore, the Act will take effect on January 1, 2027.
