This bill establishes a new section in South Dakota law that allows the Department of Public Safety to set a maximum daily meal allowance for wildland fire employees and fire suppression forces. This allowance applies when these employees are engaged in duties related to uncontrolled fires within the Black Hills Forest Fire Protection District or outside the district during a declared emergency by the Governor. The maximum allowance will not exceed the current per diem rate set by the United States General Services Administration for South Dakota and will be published annually, effective October 1st.

Additionally, the bill specifies that the daily meal allowance is applicable only to meals that are ordered and distributed in a manner approved by the Department of Public Safety. This provision aims to ensure that the meal allowances are managed effectively and in accordance with established guidelines.
