This bill establishes a new training program for county coroners under the authority of the Department of Health. The program will focus on death scene investigation and death registration, and the Department is tasked with promulgating rules to set minimum education and training standards for newly selected coroners, as well as advanced training standards for those already in office.

Additionally, the bill amends existing law by transferring the responsibility for the training program from the Law Enforcement Officers Standards Commission to the Department of Health. It removes the previous requirement for the commission to establish and maintain the training program and instead mandates that newly selected coroners participate in the Department's training within one year of taking office, with ongoing training every two years. The bill also repeals a section that previously outlined the commission's role in the training of county coroners.
