This bill establishes a new training program for county coroners under the authority of the Department of Health, which will include training on death scene investigation and death registration. The Department is tasked with promulgating rules to set minimum education and training standards for newly selected county coroners, as well as advanced training standards for those already in office. This new program replaces the previous requirement that the Law Enforcement Officers Standards Commission oversee the training for county coroners.

Additionally, the bill amends existing law to require that newly selected county coroners participate in the training program established by the Department of Health within one year of taking office. It also mandates that all county coroners complete advanced or refresher training every two years. The bill repeals the previous provision that assigned the training responsibility to the Law Enforcement Officers Standards Commission, thereby consolidating the training authority under the Department of Health.
