The bill amends South Dakota's death reporting requirements by establishing new obligations for funeral directors, embalmers, and others involved in the handling of deceased bodies. Specifically, it mandates that these individuals must keep a record of any death that occurs outside of the state, in addition to filing any required certificates. The record must identify the body and must be transmitted to the department by the fifth day of each month, detailing all human bodies handled during the preceding month.
Furthermore, if no deaths meeting the specified criteria occur in a given month, the funeral director is required to report that fact to the department using a designated form. The bill removes previous language that implied a less formal reporting process and emphasizes the need for accurate and timely record-keeping and reporting to ensure compliance with state regulations.
