This bill appropriates $5,000,000 from the general fund to the Bureau of Human Resources and Administration for the restoration, maintenance, and repair of historic areas or objects within the state capitol building. The bill defines "historic area or object" to include specific locations such as hallways, the rotunda, Supreme Court chambers, legislative chambers, the Governor's reception area, and any murals, paintings, statues, or decorations associated with the capitol. Before any funds can be spent, the South Dakota Capitol Complex Restoration and Beautification Commission must review and approve each proposed project to ensure it protects and preserves the integrity of the historic areas or objects.
Additionally, the bill outlines that the commissioner of the Bureau of Human Resources and Administration will be responsible for approving vouchers, while the state auditor will draw warrants for authorized expenditures. Any unspent or unobligated funds appropriated by this Act will revert according to established procedures. The Act is set to take effect on June 30, 2025.
