This bill amends existing provisions regarding the compensation of members of a recount board in South Dakota. Specifically, it modifies Section 12-21-4 to establish that the recount referee will receive compensation equivalent to that of court-appointed counsel, while the other two members of the recount board will receive compensation determined by the governing body of the jurisdiction where the election takes place.

Additionally, Section 12-21-4.1 is amended to ensure that each member of the recount board is reimbursed for mileage incurred while traveling to the recount from their residence, at a rate established pursuant to another section of the law.
