The bill amends existing provisions regarding the compensation of recount board members in South Dakota. Specifically, it modifies Section 12-21-4 to state that the recount referee will receive compensation equivalent to that of court-appointed counsel, while the other two members of the recount board will receive compensation determined by the governing body of the jurisdiction where the election occurs, replacing the previous fixed amount of twenty-five dollars per day or the state minimum hourly wage.

Additionally, Section 12-21-4.1 is amended to clarify that each member of the recount board will receive mileage reimbursement for travel from their residence to the recount location, based on the rate established in 3-9-1. The previous stipulation that this mileage provision would not apply to the first ten miles traveled each day has been removed.
