This bill mandates that public school administrators in South Dakota display the state seal or motto in each classroom. The display must be prominently placed and can take various forms, such as a mounted plaque or student artwork. Additionally, if the motto is displayed, it must be easily readable and meet specific size requirements of at least eleven inches wide by eight and one-half inches high.
Furthermore, the bill amends existing law to ensure that if any lawsuits or complaints arise due to the display of the national motto or the state seal or motto, the attorney general is required to provide legal representation at no cost to the involved school district, employees, or board members. The state will also cover all related expenses incurred from the lawsuit, including any monetary damages, attorney's fees, and other costs that the school district or its employees may be liable for.
