This bill appropriates $500,000 from the general fund to the Department of Human Services to reimburse primary caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or related symptoms for the costs of respite care services. To qualify for reimbursement, caregivers must be at least 18 years old, apply using a form provided by the Department, provide unpaid care to the individual, and demonstrate a need for respite care. The Department will prioritize caregivers who have reached the maximum funding under the Older Americans Act.
Additionally, the Department of Human Services is required to report annually to the Joint Committee on Appropriations, starting January 1, 2026, detailing the number of caregivers reimbursed, the amounts paid, the care recipients' living situations, unspent funds, and types of services reimbursed. The bill also stipulates that the secretary of the Department will approve vouchers for expenditures, and any unspent funds will revert according to existing procedures. An emergency clause is included, allowing the Act to take effect immediately upon passage and approval.
