This bill amends South Dakota's law regarding the appointment of a replacement when a vacancy occurs in the board of county commissioners. The current law stipulates that the remaining board members must appoint a suitable person to fill the vacancy within thirty-five days or until the conclusion of the second regular meeting after the vacancy occurs, whichever is later.

The amendment extends the timeframe for filling such vacancies, allowing for a more flexible approach to appointments. Additionally, it maintains the provision that if there is an even number of county commissioners remaining, the county auditor will act as a member of the board to assist in the appointment process.
