This bill amends South Dakota law to allow the operation of Class I electric bicycles on the George S. Mickelson Trail. The current law prohibits individuals from operating motorized vehicles within the right-of-way of the trail, but the amendment introduces specific exceptions. Notably, it replaces the term "No person" with "An individual" and clarifies that individuals may operate a Class I electric bicycle, as defined in section 32-20B-9, on the trail.
Additionally, the bill modifies the list of exceptions to the prohibition on motorized vehicles. It retains exceptions for snowmobiles, governmental employees, organized rescue or firefighting personnel, and individuals authorized by the Department of Game, Fish and Parks, while also adding the new exception for Class I electric bicycles. The bill maintains that violations of this section are classified as a Class 2 misdemeanor.
