An Act to extend Medicaid postpartum coverage.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of South Dakota:

Section 1. That chapter 28-6 be amended with a NEW SECTION:

The Department of Social Services shall provide Medicaid postpartum coverage from the last day of a person's pregnancy to the end of the month following a three-hundred-and-sixty-five-day postpartum period.

The department shall, on or before August 1, 2023, submit a state plan amendment to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to effectuate the coverage extension referenced in this section.
