The bill, H. 5518, is a concurrent resolution that congratulates four students from Walker Gamble Elementary School—Lawson Cannon, Knowlton Carter, Wayde Ingram, and Rayvon Kersey—for winning the 2026 Children's Book Challenge. This competition, sponsored by Santee Electric Cooperative and the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, invited fourth and fifth graders to write and illustrate a children's book about a day in the life of a line worker. The students' book, titled "Job Shadowing a Lineman," tells the story of a boy named Jaden who learns about the responsibilities and tools of a lineman while spending a day with his father.
In recognition of their achievement, the students will receive a five-hundred-dollar prize, and their book will be printed and distributed to elementary schools across South Carolina. Additionally, their teacher, Ms. Lauren Kinlaw, who facilitated their participation in the competition, will receive a two-hundred-fifty-dollar prize. The resolution expresses the General Assembly's pride in the students' accomplishment and their hope for the students' future success. A copy of the resolution will be presented to Walker Gamble Elementary School.
