The South Carolina Senate has adopted a resolution to commend Taiwan for its strong relations with both the United States and the State of South Carolina. The resolution highlights the long-standing alliance between Taiwan and the U.S., emphasizing shared values such as democracy, peace, and prosperity. It notes significant milestones in 2026, including the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence and the 30th anniversary of Taiwan's first direct presidential election, which reinforce the commitment to democratic principles and regional security. The resolution also acknowledges Taiwan's role as a major trading partner and the economic benefits derived from the assembly of F-16 fighter jets in Greenville, South Carolina.
Furthermore, the resolution encourages ongoing dialogue under the "US-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade" and supports the establishment of a double taxation avoidance mechanism to attract Taiwanese investments. It advocates for the Taiwan Caucus to explore collaborative opportunities and recognizes Taiwan's contributions in various global sectors. The Senate members urge state officials to engage with Taiwan on substantive issues, promote educational exchanges, and participate in cultural events that celebrate Taiwan's heritage. A copy of the resolution will be provided to Mr. Jared Lin, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta.
