The South Carolina Senate has adopted a resolution to recognize and honor Jim Fitch for his fiftieth anniversary as the executive director of the Rice Museum in Georgetown. The resolution highlights Mr. Fitch's extensive background, including his education at Wake Forest University and his studies abroad in India and Italy, where he gained valuable experience in art and history. Since taking on the role of executive director in 1976, he has overseen numerous projects and renovations at the museum, including significant installations and the publication of his book on the history of rice planting in South Carolina.

The resolution also acknowledges Mr. Fitch's contributions to the arts and education, noting his work as an author, lecturer, and watercolor painter, as well as his teaching role at Coker College. Throughout his career, he has received various honors, including the Governor's Heritage Tourism Award and the Governor's Award in Humanities. The Senate expresses its appreciation for Mr. Fitch's dedication to serving the people of South Carolina and resolves to present him with a copy of the resolution in recognition of his achievements.
