The bill H. 4628 proposes an amendment to Section 44-34-50 of the South Carolina Code of Laws, specifically regarding the minimum age requirement for tattoo artists. The current law stipulates that a tattoo artist must be at least twenty-one years old; however, the amendment seeks to lower this age requirement to eighteen years old.

In addition to the age change, the bill maintains the existing requirements for tattoo artists, which include possessing a certificate of successful completion of a course in blood borne pathology and tattoo infection control, as well as current certifications in First Aid and Adult CPR from recognized organizations. Tattoo artists are also required to display these certificates prominently within their tattoo facilities. The act will take effect upon approval by the Governor.
