The "Military Skills to Civilian Licensure Act" aims to facilitate the transition of veterans and military spouses into civilian employment by recognizing their military training and experience as equivalent to civilian licensure requirements. The bill mandates that all professional and occupational licensing boards in South Carolina grant full or partial credit for documented military education, training, and experience when it is substantially equivalent to civilian standards. Additionally, if a licensing application is denied, the board is required to provide a written explanation within thirty days.
Furthermore, the act stipulates that applications from veterans and military spouses must be processed within twenty business days. In cases where an examination is pending but competency has been established, temporary licensure must be issued. This legislation is designed to reduce barriers to employment for veterans, thereby strengthening the workforce and honoring their service. The act will take effect upon approval by the Governor.
