This identifier will be printed in red and must be obtained within thirty days of the offender's release from the Department of Corrections. The DMV is authorized to charge a fee for this service. Additionally, individuals can remove the identifier upon termination of their sex offender status by providing appropriate documentation from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

The bill also establishes penalties for non-compliance, classifying violations as misdemeanors that could result in imprisonment for up to three years and fines of up to five hundred dollars. This legislation is designed to ensure that individuals with serious sexual offenses are easily identifiable, thereby promoting community awareness and safety. The act will take effect upon the Governor's approval.
