The South Carolina Senate has adopted a resolution to commend three Dreher High School students—Micah Roth, Eliza Jones, and Hampton Rogers—for their heroic actions during a kitchen fire on February 10, 2025. While on a routine run in Columbia's Shandon neighborhood, the students heard a woman, Donna McIntosh Aiken, screaming for help from her burning home. Without hesitation, they entered the house, extinguished the flames from the gas stove, assisted Ms. Aiken to safety, and ensured that no one else entered the dangerous situation while calling for emergency help.

The resolution highlights the bravery and selflessness of these young athletes, who, despite considering themselves just "kids in the right place at the right time," took significant risks to save a fellow citizen and her pet. The Senate recognizes their actions as exemplary and impactful, stating that this experience will likely influence their lives moving forward. A copy of the resolution will be presented to the students in acknowledgment of their courageous deeds.
