A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR SURETTA BROADWATER OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER EIGHTEEN YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Suretta Broadwater began a well-deserved retirement on March 29, 2024, after working eighteen years in banking in Cayce; and

Whereas, her first job was with Congaree State Bank, which merged into CresCom Bank, and most recently merged with United Bank. She loved her customers and enjoyed helping them in any way she could, remembering and greeting each by name when they came into the bank; and

Whereas, always good with numbers, she had a great memory and even knew the customers' account numbers and birthdays by heart.  Customers would often wait in line for her so they could spend time chatting with her, and some customers would even stop by with fresh fruit or vegetables which they knew she would enjoy; and

Whereas, the product of a close-knit family, Suretta Broadwater was reared in a loving home, the ninth of twelve children, and with her other siblings, she is now a caregiver for their seventy-three-year-old brother. The mother of three children and grandmother of four grandchildren, she cherishes spending time together, including occasional Sunday dinners made from scratch; and

Whereas, she is passionate about the outdoors, beginning every morning with a three- or four-mile walk, and spending as much time outside as possible, including time tending her flowers, watching her grandchildren play outdoors, and even starting her own vegetable garden; and

Whereas, a woman of faith, Suretta Broadwater is a devoted and active member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Lexington. In her retirement, she looks forward to continuing to volunteer at her own church, and starting to help with delivery of meals to the elderly through Holland Avenue Baptist Church in Cayce; and

Whereas, although she will miss seeing her customers and greeting them every day, she looks forward to a more relaxed pace in the days ahead and having time to travel to yet-to-be-decided locations; and

Whereas, grateful for her years of distinguished service to United Bank in Cayce, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Suretta Broadwater, and the members wish her many years of enjoyment in her well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Suretta Broadwater of Lexington County, upon the occasion of her retirement after eighteen years of faithful service, and wish her much happiness in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Suretta Broadwater.
