A senate RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE Xavier Legette FOR being selected as the thirty-second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that Xavier Legette has been selected as the thirty-second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers; and

Whereas, a native of Mullins in Marion County, Xavier was born on January 29, 2001. He graduated from Mullins High School where he played baseball, basketball, and football. He played both wide receiver and quarterback in high school, and had intended to play both baseball and football collegiately; and

Whereas, Xavier committed to the University of South Carolina to play football, where he was a quiet playmaker for his first four seasons. After a record-breaking senior season, he was named third-team All-American and first-team All-SEC. He led the team with seventy-one receptions for one thousand two hundred fifty-five yards (the second highest single-season mark in school history) and seven receiving touchdowns; and

Whereas, Xavier became the fifth player in school history to eclipse the one thousand yards receiving mark in a single season, after averaging over one hundred receiving yards per game. He was recently named the University of South Carolina's 2023-2024 Male Athlete of the Year; and

Whereas, following his electric super senior season, Xavier was invited to the Reese's Senior Bowl, where he stood out as one of the top receivers and earned All-American honors from the game. He was subsequently invited to the NFL Combine, where he posted top numbers for his position in the forty-yard dash and broad jump; and

Whereas, over the years, Xavier has received a number of honors and awards, including the 2023 Blanchard-Rogers Trophy, which is the "Heisman Award" for the State of South Carolina. He was selected as a Rex Enright Team Captain. He won the Most Outstanding Senior on the 2023 Carolina squad, the Steve Spurrier Award winner as the MVP of the Gamecock offense, and shared the Steve Wadiak Team MVP Award with quarterback Spencer Rattler. He was also a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which recognizes the nation's top wide receiver; and

Whereas, the Senate is grateful for Xavier's dedicated service to the people and the State of South Carolina and takes great pleasure in saluting him for being selected as the thirty-second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Xavier Legette for being selected as the thirty-second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Xavier Legette.
