A house RESOLUTION

 

to EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF Leon Bryant III OF Rincon, Georgia, and to EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Leon Bryant III at the age of fifty-seven on April 26, 2024; and

 

Whereas, born on March 2,1967, he graduated from Wade Hampton High School with honors in 1985 where he was a standout basketball player. He was inducted into the Wade Hampton High School Hall of Fame in 2012; and

 

Whereas, Mr. Bryant earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from The Citadel in 1989 while on a basketball scholarship.  A native of Hampton, South Carolina, he played in 111 games between 1985 and 1989 for The Citadel, amassing 1,214 career points, which ranks in the top twenty in the program's history at The Citadel. In addition, he was the all-time leader in career three-point percentage with 46.3 percent; and

 

Whereas, he was a Southern Conference (SoCon) All-Freshman Team selection in 1985-1986, and during his sophomore season, he scored 20 points on the road against the number thirteen-ranked University of Kansas as the Bulldogs fell by just three points to the Kansas Jayhawks; and

 

Whereas, during his senior season, Mr. Bryant was a team captain, and he still ranks in the program's all-time top 10 in assists (fifth), minutes played (seventh), and field goals made (tenth); and

 

Whereas, he served in the auto sales industry for over thirty years, the first twenty with Toyota where he was inducted into the Toyota Pros; and

 

Whereas, Mr. Bryant worked for Chatham Parkway Subaru in Savannah, Georgia, where he was the general sales manager and the Top Salesman; and

 

Whereas, together with his beloved wife of thirty years, Sonja Mears Bryant, he reared two loving daughters, Noel Bryant and Nadia Annette Bryant, who were the joy of his life; and

 

Whereas, he enjoyed just hanging out with his family when he was not working, but he still enjoyed watching sports, especially football and basketball; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Leon Bryant and for the example of excellence and friendship he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Leon Bryant III of Rincon, Georgia, and extend their deepest sympathy to his loving family and his many friends.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leon Bryant III.
