A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF FAIRFIELD STREET IN THE TOWN OF WINNSBORO IN FAIRFIELD COUNTY FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH TRUMAN STREET TO THE ADULT CENTER FOR EDUCATION "T.E. GREENE STREET" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS CONTAINING THESE WORDS.

Whereas, Mr. Theodore Edward "T. E." Greene, the only child of Beulah Crumbley Greene and Theordore Greene, was born in Marietta, Georgia. He departed his earthly life on February 16, 2003, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey; and

Whereas, he accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized and became a member of St. Mary African American Methodist Episcopal Church in Chicago, Illinois; and

Whereas, Mr. Greene received his B.A. degree from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, and an M.A. degree from Teacher's College, Columbia University in New York, New York; and

Whereas, his professional career spanned more than forty years as a teacher, dean, supervisor, and school administrator; and

Whereas, among his many professional accomplishments in the State of South Carolina, he served with distinction as principal of Fairfield High School in the Town of Winnsboro from 1955 to 1970; and

Whereas, while residing in Fairfield County, he was a member of Wayman African Methodist Episcopal Church where he served as a trustee; and

Whereas, he later migrated to Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where he became the first African American administrator employed by the Perth Amboy school system. Upon retirement from Perth Amboy High School as an administrator, he was employed as a supervisor for student teachers in the special education department at Kean College in Union, New Jersey; and

Whereas, throughout his life "T. E." was a dedicated administrator who touched innumerable lives. He was known for his warm, friendly disposition and his jovial spirit. He had a genuine concern and compassion for the well being of young people and encouraged them to reach their highest potential; and

Whereas, "T. E." also had a kind and caring love for his family, friends, and neighbors. Students, parents, co-workers and all who knew him gave him the highest respect; and

Whereas, it would be fitting and proper to honor this great warrior in the field of education by having a road in the Town of Winnsboro in Fairfield County named in his memory. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation name the portion of Fairfield Street in the Town of Winnsboro in Fairfield County from its intersection with Truman Street to the Adult Center for Education "T.E.
