A senate RESOLUTION

TO CELEBRATE YORK'S SEVENTH ANNUAL SILVER IN THE CITY RALLY, TO BE HELD FRIDAY, APRIL 12, 2024, THROUGH SUNDAY, APRIL 14, 2024, TO ENCOURAGE ALL SOUTH CAROLINIANS TO ATTEND AND ENJOY THIS FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENT, AND TO WISH ITS ORGANIZERS EVERY SUCCESS.

Whereas, located in lovely York County, the City of York was founded in 1786 and holds close ties to the early history of South Carolina; and

Whereas, over the past seven years, York's Silver in the City rally has become an important part of the city's unique culture and historic heritage. The family-oriented, volunteer-run event offers a weekend of varied enjoyments while showcasing the city's character and its historic heritage, as well as its delectable downtown restaurant fare and charming shops. Further, visitors may attend the event at no charge; and

Whereas, in this year's edition of Silver in the City, April 12-14, 2024, the iconic Airstream travel trailer headlines the event's attractions, as always. On April 12, seventy-five Airstreams will roll into town and line up for a glorious parade down North Congress Street, and on that same day visitors will be treated to a captivating opening ceremony, led by Mayor Mike Fuesser. Further attractions include an April 13 open house featuring the Airstreams, during which everyone may come and take a peek inside these beauties; food trucks and live music throughout the weekend; and lots of other fun activities, all of which are sponsored by the Palmetto State Airstream Club and the City of York; and

Whereas, serving as hosts for the Silver in the City rally are Terry and Ann Montgomery and John and Susan Leake, longtime York residents and members of the Palmetto State Airstream Club. They are delighted to bring the event back to York for the seventh time, and their outstanding leadership of the event's many volunteers keeps everything about Silver in the City flowing in shipshape fashion; and

Whereas, in lieu of charging exhibitors a Silver in the City rally fee, the hosts ask that exhibitors donate to PATH, a local charitable organization that assists residents through a food bank and helps with power and water bills; and

Whereas, the Senate commends the people of York for bringing the Silver in the City rally to the Palmetto State and encourages all South Carolinians to patronize and enjoy its offerings. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, celebrate York's seventh annual Silver in the City rally, to be held Friday, April 12, 2024, through Sunday, April 14, 2024, encourage all South Carolinians to attend and enjoy this family-friendly event, and wish its organizers every success.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Palmetto Airstream Club and Mayor Mike Fuesser for Silver in the City.
