A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE Dorman High School boys cross country TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN EXTRAORDINARY SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2023 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Dorman High School boys cross country team of Spartanburg County captured the state title at the state competition held on November 11, 2023; and
Whereas, to the delight of their faithful fans, the Dorman Cavaliers defeated a worthy field of opponents, besting their nearest challenge from Fort Mill High School by 14 points to claim the team's seventh state championship trophy; and
Whereas, the Cavaliers placed four runners in the top fifteen overall, all of whom were named All-State. The runners who led the team were Andrew Cleland, Tyler Davis, Noah Yarborough, Nathan Edwards, Miles Brooks, Joseph McBride, and Cameron Bailey; and
Whereas, the Dorman team finished the season undefeated in regular contests, finishing with a 17-0 record and claiming the Spartanburg County championship and Region 2 class AAAAA championship; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands discipline, endurance, and speed, Head Coach Jeff Buys and his skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic experience and ability to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these runners life principles that will endure beyond the courses; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives values the pride and recognition that the Dorman cross country runners have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Dorman High School boys cross country team, coaches, and school officials for an extraordinary season and congratulate them for winning the 2023 South Carolina Class AAAAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Bryant Roberson and Coach Jeff Buys.
