The Rhode Island House of Representatives has passed a resolution congratulating J. L. "Lynn" Singleton on his retirement as President and CEO of the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC). Singleton joined PPAC in 1983 and played a pivotal role in transforming the organization from near bankruptcy into one of North America's leading not-for-profit theaters. Under his leadership, the number of events at PPAC has more than tripled, with annual attendance exceeding 350,000 patrons. His vision and successful fundraising efforts have restored the theater's historic charm and facilitated the hosting of numerous acclaimed productions, significantly contributing to the economic vitality of Providence and the state.
The resolution acknowledges Singleton's numerous accolades, including multiple awards for his leadership in the arts and his induction into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame. The resolution expresses gratitude for his dedication and the success he has brought to the arts in the state. The House of Representatives has authorized the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy of the resolution to Singleton as a formal recognition of his contributions.
