The bill amends Section 36-10.1-2 of the Rhode Island Public Employee Pension Revocation and Reduction Act to clarify the definitions related to crimes committed by public officials or employees. It specifies that crimes related to public office or employment include bribery in connection with the employment of a public officer or employee, and any felony committed with the intent to defraud the public or the public agency for which the public officer or employee acts or is employed, resulting in a monetary or nonmonetary profit, gain, or advantage for themselves or another person.

Additionally, the bill introduces a new provision that includes the committing of any felony under chapter 37 of title 11, on or after July 1, 2026, by a public officer or employee through the use or attempted use of their public office or employment position as a crime that could lead to pension revocation or reduction.

The act is set to take effect upon passage.
