The bill amends Section 23-1.7-5 of the General Laws in Chapter 23-1.7, which pertains to the Rhode Island Program to Address Alzheimer's Disease. It expands the training requirements to include licensed physician assistants, in addition to physicians and nurses. Specifically, all these medical professionals are now required to complete a minimum of one hour of instruction on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with cognitive impairments, including Alzheimer's disease, during each license renewal period.

The bill removes the previous requirement for physicians and nurses to complete a one-time course of training by October 1, 2023. Instead, it establishes a recurring training requirement for all three categories of medical professionals. The Department of Health is tasked with promulgating rules to implement this training requirement. The act is set to take effect upon passage.
