The bill amends Section 3-7-19 of the General Laws in Chapter 3-7, which governs "Retail Licenses," by introducing new provisions regarding the issuance of certain retail licenses (Class B, C, N, and I) based on their proximity to schools and places of worship. Specifically, licenses cannot be granted if the owner of the majority of land within 200 feet of the proposed location files an objection, and they cannot be issued within 200 feet of any public, private, or parochial school or a place of public worship. In East Providence, Class A licenses are further restricted from being issued within 500 feet of such premises.

The bill also grants the city council of Cranston the authority to exempt a proposed retailer Class BV license intended to be located at 1814 Broad St., Plat 2, Lot 3772, from the proximity restrictions outlined in this section. This exemption allows for flexibility in the issuance of licenses despite proximity objections. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
