Specifically, the bill allows the board of licenses of the town of Westerly to exempt a proposed retailer Class B license intended to be located at 102 Granite Street, Map 67, Lot 275, from the existing proximity restrictions related to schools and places of worship.

Under current law, licenses cannot be granted if the owner of the majority of land within 200 feet of the proposed location files an objection, and they cannot be issued within 200 feet of any public, private, or parochial school or place of worship. The bill provides local boards of licenses in various municipalities, including Westerly, with the authority to grant exemptions to these proximity restrictions under certain conditions.

The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
