The bill amends Section 31-38-4 of the General Laws regarding the inspection of motor vehicles. It establishes that after the first motor vehicle inspection, all motor vehicles (excluding motorcycles) registered with a gross weight of eight thousand five hundred pounds (8,500 lbs.) or less will not require further inspections until they are at least twenty (20) years old. Once a vehicle reaches this age, it will then be subject to biennial inspections for emissions and safety items. The act is set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
