The bill amends Chapter 3-7 of the General Laws, titled "Retail Licenses," by introducing a new section, 3-7-30, which requires licensed retailers authorized to sell intoxicating beverages for onsite consumption to provide a lid for customers' drinks upon request. A "lid" is defined as a removable cover of any size that attaches to the rim of a corresponding beverage container, and while the lid is not required to fit all containers, it must fit at least one. Retailers may charge an additional fee for the lids, which shall not exceed a reasonable amount based on the wholesale cost, but they are also allowed to offer them free of charge. The bill specifies that a sole violation of this requirement will result in a warning from the department for the first offense. The provisions of this act are set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
