The bill amends Section 28-9.1-17 of the General Laws concerning "Firefighters' Arbitration." It provides that all contractual provisions in a firefighters' collective bargaining agreement will continue until a successor agreement has been reached between the parties or an interest arbitration award has been rendered. The bill removes the previous requirement for either the bargaining agent or corporate authority to propose changes in writing within a specified thirty-day period. Instead, it establishes that the existing provisions will remain in effect during negotiations for new agreements. This act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
