This bill amends the existing laws regarding the state board of examiners of electricians by increasing its membership from seven to eight members, specifically adding a Rhode Island licensed telecommunications contractor to the board. The bill clarifies the board's policy-making role in the preparation and evaluation of examinations. It also specifies that the licensing authority for telecommunications contractors, technicians, and installers will be the state board of examiners of electricians, transferring all powers, duties, functions, and responsibilities previously assigned to the board of examination and licensing of telecommunications systems contractors to the electricians' board. Additionally, all references to the licensing authority for telecommunications professionals will now refer to the state board of examiners of electricians. The regulatory authority under this chapter will be exercised by the director of the department of labor and training upon the recommendation of the board. This act will take effect upon passage.
