This bill amends various chapters of the General Laws related to health insurance to mandate coverage for medically necessary hormonal and non-hormonal therapy to treat the symptoms of peri-menopause and menopause. It introduces new sections in Chapters 27-18, 27-19, 27-20, and 27-41, which require that every individual or group health insurance contract, plan, or policy delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed in the state on or after January 1, 2027, must provide this coverage. The bill specifies that coverage must include at least one federal Food and Drug Administration-approved hormonal and non-hormonal treatment, as well as one hormonal replacement therapy option in each of the following modalities: oral, transdermal, topical, and vaginal.

The act aims to ensure that women experiencing peri-menopause and menopause have access to necessary treatments as recommended by qualified healthcare providers who are licensed, accredited, or certified under Rhode Island law. The bill is set to take effect upon passage, with the coverage requirements becoming applicable starting January 1, 2027.
