This bill amends various chapters of the General Laws related to health insurance to mandate coverage for hormonal and non-hormonal therapy to treat menopause. It requires that any group health insurer that amends, delivers, issues, or renews policies in Rhode Island on or after January 1, 2027, must provide coverage for medically necessary hormone therapy for menopause induced by a hysterectomy or for treating menopausal symptoms, provided the therapy is recommended by a qualified healthcare provider who is licensed, accredited, or certified under Rhode Island law and has been proven safe and effective in peer-reviewed scientific studies.
Additionally, the bill specifies that coverage for therapy to treat menopausal symptoms must include all federal Food and Drug Administration-approved modalities of hormonal and non-hormonal administration, including, but not limited to, oral, transdermal, topical, and vaginal rings. This legislation will take effect upon passage.
