The bill amends Section 3-7-19 of the General Laws in Chapter 3-7, which governs "Retail Licenses," by introducing new provisions related to the issuance of Class B and Class BV liquor licenses. Specifically, the bill allows the board of licenses of the city of Providence to exempt any proposed retailer Class B or Class BV license intended to be located at 186 Wayland Avenue, Plat 014, Lot 446 of the applicable city of Providence tax assessment map, from the existing proximity restrictions to schools and places of worship.

Under current law, licenses cannot be granted if the owner of the majority of land within 200 feet of the proposed location files an objection, and they cannot be issued within 200 feet of public, private, or parochial schools or places of worship. The bill provides the board of licenses in Providence with the authority to grant exemptions for specific locations after application, thereby allowing for flexibility in local governance.

The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
