The bill amends Chapter 16-16 of the General Laws regarding Teachers Retirement by introducing a new section, 16-16-44, which allows retired members of the employees retirement system of Rhode Island, including teachers, state, and municipal workers, to be employed in full-time or part-time positions without any forfeiture or reduction of their retirement benefits. To qualify for this provision, retired members must reside in Rhode Island for at least 270 days in a calendar year and have an annual gross income from all sources that is less than $55,000. Additionally, the bill requires that notice of the reemployment be sent monthly to the state retirement board by both the employer and the retired member. This act will take effect upon passage.
