The bill amends the existing legal framework regarding court fees in Rhode Island, specifically in the district, superior, and family courts. It increases various fees associated with civil actions, including the entry of small claims and other actions, as well as writs of execution. For instance, the fee for entering a small claim will rise from $55.00 to $75.00, while the fee for entering other actions will increase from $80.00 to $100.00. Additionally, the fee for writs of execution will go from $20.00 to $40.00 in district court, from $50.00 to $70.00 in superior court, and from $40.00 to $50.00 in family court.

The bill also stipulates that a portion of these fees—specifically, $20.00 from each entry fee and writ—will be forwarded to Rhode Island Legal Services, replacing previous amounts of $5.00 and $10.00. This act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
