The bill amends Section 45-53-14 of the General Laws regarding low-income housing to expand its scope to include moderate-income housing. It establishes a new online database that will be hosted by the executive office of housing, which will provide updated information on residential developments that meet the definition of low- or moderate-income housing. The database will contain current information on the existing inventory of low- or moderate-income housing in the state, a copy of the application to apply for housing, and will allow individuals to identify different types of affordable housing and receive alerts when suitable options become available.

Additionally, the bill introduces a new section, 45-53-14.1, which mandates that owners of properties qualifying as low- or moderate-income housing must list their properties on the database. For developments completed after January 1, 2027, listings must occur prior to or concurrently with the opening for lease-up or sale. Low- or moderate-income homeownership units must be listed on the database prior to their initial sale and prior to or concurrently with listing the property for re-sale. The act aims to streamline access to affordable housing information and will take effect on January 1, 2027.
