The bill amends Section 23-27.3-108.2 of the General Laws concerning the duties of the state building code commissioner. It establishes that the commissioner has the authority to enforce building codes and perform related duties. The bill introduces provisions that exempt veterans with a disability rating from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, or their caregivers, from all building fees related to home modifications necessary to accommodate the veteran's disability. This includes permit fees, plan review fees, inspection fees, reinspection fees, and other fees required for such improvements. Additionally, it prohibits local ordinances from regulating building fees in a manner inconsistent with this chapter. The act is set to take effect upon passage.
