The bill amends Chapter 3-7 of the General Laws, titled "Retail Licenses," by introducing a new section, 3-7-30, which requires all holders of retail licenses authorized to sell intoxicating beverages for onsite consumption to provide a lid for customers' drinks upon request. A "lid" is defined as a removable cover that attaches to the rim of a corresponding beverage container and must fit at least one type of container sold on the premises. Retailers may charge an additional fee for the lids, which shall not exceed a reasonable amount based on the wholesale cost, but they are also permitted to offer them free of charge. The bill specifies that a sole violation of this requirement will result in a warning from the department for the first offense. The provisions of this act are set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
