This bill amends various sections of the General Laws related to insurance policies to introduce and define "acute mental health crisis mobile response and stabilization services." It specifies that these services are a behavioral health crisis intervention model aimed at providing immediate de-escalation, stabilization, and follow-up care for children and youth aged twenty-one (21) years and younger experiencing acute mental health crises. The bill mandates that all individual or group health insurance contracts issued or renewed in the state on or after January 1, 2027, must cover these mobile response and stabilization services, ensuring that the coverage aligns with the core components of the established model.
Additionally, the bill requires insurers to reimburse certified providers for these services at rates equal to or greater than the prevailing integrated state Medicaid rate for mobile response and stabilization services, effective October 1, 2026. The act is set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
