The bill amends Section 46-22-4 of the General Laws regarding the registration of motorboats, introducing a new fee structure for motorboat owners. In addition to the standard registration fee, motorboat owners will be required to pay an additional fee of five dollars ($5.00) biennially, or two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) annually if they choose annual registration. These additional fees will be deposited into a restricted account for freshwater preservation, as specified in the newly inserted Section 46-33-3.
The bill also establishes a restricted receipt account known as the "Rhode Island lake management program fund," which will be funded by the fees collected under these new provisions. The purpose of this fund is to provide the necessary funding to implement the provisions of the freshwater lake management program, in accordance with rules and regulations set forth by the department for the spending of the collected deposits. The act will take effect upon passage.
