The bill amends Section 45-21-54 of the General Laws regarding the reemployment of retired municipal employees. It increases the allowable working days for retired members to reenter the service without affecting their pension benefits from seventy-five (75) days to ninety (90) days, or its equivalent of six hundred thirty (630) working hours in a calendar year. If a retired member exceeds this limit, their pension payments will be suspended. The bill specifies that pension payments are not affected for retired members serving as elected city or town council members or school committee members while receiving their retirement allowance for other services. The act is set to take effect upon passage.
