The bill amends Section 23-18.9-17 of the General Laws in Chapter 23-18.9, introducing a "Food waste ban" that mandates educational entities to ensure that organic waste materials generated by them are managed appropriately. Starting January 1, 2023, each educational entity, as defined in Section 16-111-1, must ensure that the organic waste materials they generate are recycled.

The bill also authorizes the Department of Environmental Management to issue and enforce rules and regulations that are consistent with the provisions of Chapter 18.9 of this title, in order to implement and enforce the provisions of the food waste ban. The act will take effect upon passage.
