The bill amends the existing legal framework regarding court fees in Rhode Island, specifically in the district, superior, and family courts. It proposes increases in various fees, including raising the entry fee for small claims from $55.00 to $75.00, and for other actions from $80.00 to $100.00 in district court. In superior court, the entry fee for civil actions will increase from $160.00 to $180.00, and the fee for writs of execution will rise from $50.00 to $70.00. In family court, the entry fee for petitions and complaints will go from $120.00 to $130.00, and the fee for writs of execution will increase from $40.00 to $50.00. Additionally, a portion of these fees, previously set at $5.00 or $10.00, will now be forwarded to Rhode Island Legal Services at a rate of $20.00.

The act will take effect immediately upon passage.
