The bill amends Chapter 6-47 of the General Laws by introducing a new section, 6-47-2.1, which requires that any video, image, or photography generated by artificial intelligence (AI) that is uploaded, created, distributed, or originated from within the State of Rhode Island, or posted from outside the state and viewable in Rhode Island, must include a marking disclosing that the content has been generated by AI.

The bill defines "artificial intelligence" or "AI" as a machine-based system that undertakes analysis, reasoning, and problem-solving, and can generate predictions, recommendations, photographs, videos, or other content.

Additionally, any person or entity that violates the disclosure requirement for profit, or for trade as defined in 6-13.1-1, will be deemed to have engaged in a deceptive trade practice in violation of chapter 13.1 of title 6 and will be subject to civil penalties as outlined in 6-13.1-8. The act is set to take effect upon passage.
