This bill amends Section 31-10-20 of the General Laws regarding driver education course requirements for individuals under eighteen years of age. It allows for the completion of driver education courses in an instructor-led virtual format, in addition to traditional classroom settings. The virtual instruction option is recognized as equivalent to in-person courses and is intended to enhance accessibility for students. The instructor-led virtual format will be permitted until July 1, 2028.
Additionally, the bill mandates that the state board of education analyze and report on the test results of the instructor-led virtual instruction compared to in-person classroom instruction. This report is to be submitted to the speaker of the house and the president of the senate by September 1, 2028. The act will take effect upon passage.
