The Rhode Island House of Representatives has introduced a resolution to commemorate July of 2025 as "Fragile X Awareness Month" in the state. This initiative aims to raise awareness about Fragile X Syndrome (FXS), a genetic disorder that leads to intellectual disabilities, behavioral challenges, and physical abnormalities. The resolution highlights the significance of FXS, noting that it is the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability and a known genetic cause of autism. With over 1.5 million Americans being carriers of the FXS mutation and more than 100,000 individuals diagnosed with the syndrome, the resolution emphasizes the need for increased awareness and understanding within the medical community and the general public.

The resolution calls on all Rhode Islanders to engage in advocacy for research advancements and treatment options for those affected by Fragile X Syndrome, as well as to support their families. It recognizes the importance of celebrating the contributions of individuals and families impacted by FXS and aims to promote ongoing research efforts that could lead to effective treatments and potential cures. The Secretary of State is tasked with transmitting certified copies of the resolution to relevant organizations, including the National Fragile X Foundation and Little Rhody Warriors, to further support awareness and advocacy efforts.

Introduced by Representatives Noret, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Chippendale, and Serpa on January 29, the resolution has been read and passed in the House.
