The bill amends Section 36-12-7 of the General Laws in Chapter 36-12, titled "Insurance Benefits," to expand eligibility for insurance benefits to include private employees at nursing homes, developmental disability providers, and home care providers whose salaries are ninety percent (90%) funded by state or federal monies. These employees, along with all state service personnel, will have the option to participate in an insurance contract. The director of the insurance program may exclude certain temporary, part-time, or intermittent employees if deemed impractical.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that eligible private employees can have their insurance premiums deducted from their earnings, with their employers having the option to contribute to pay all or a portion of the premium payment. This act will take effect immediately upon passage.
