The bill amends Title 11 of the General Laws by adding a new chapter, Chapter 71, titled "Disarming a Peace Officer." It establishes that any person who knowingly removes or attempts to remove a firearm, deadly weapon, or less-lethal weapon, including but not limited to blunt impact, chemical, or conducted energy devices, from the person of a peace officer, as defined in 12-7-21, or an investigator of the Department of Attorney General appointed pursuant to 42-9-8.1, shall be deemed to have committed a felony. Additionally, the bill includes provisions for knowingly depriving or attempting to deprive the use of a mobile communication device or radio used in the performance of official duty from such officers. The penalty for this offense is imprisonment for not less than one year and not more than five years. The act will take effect upon passage.
